The COACHELLA VALLEY QUILT GUILD presented Desert
Samaritans with a check for $2000!
We thank you! The funds will be used to help us on our continuing mission of serving
low-income seniors in the Coachella Valley. The Guild also donated 20 beautiful
hand made quilts. We give the quilts to our seniors on their birthdays and during
the holiday season. The Guild continues todonate these beautiful hand made
quilts throughout the year.

Desert Samaritans for Seniors is Coachella Valley’s only nonprofit organization exclusively serving seniors with social service programming. Celebrating 14 years of service, we are proud of our rich and meaningful contributions to the community enabling seniors to remain in their homes, with access to food, transportation to medical and other appointments, financial assistance and one on one services from qualified and professional social workers.
In the Coachella Valley, according to the 2010 Community Health Monitor, Comprehensive Health Needs Assessment:
• More than 33,000 senior residents live on incomes of $25,000 a year or less.
• Almost 44,000 seniors lack Medicare Supplemental Insurance.
• 24,000 seniors do not have coverage for some or all of their prescription drugs.
• More than 12,300 seniors report cutting the size of or skipping meals because there was not enough money for food.
• 14,000 seniors report needing support in the areas of utilities, food, financial, transportation, and home health care.
We are here for these seniors, aged 60 years and older. Through various grants, donations and sponsorships as well as our fundraising efforts, Desert Samaritans responds to more than 1000 requests for information and referral services each year. Additionally, more than 2000 requests for direct services are provided to eligible seniors. Annually, more than $100,000 is paid to third party vendors alone on behalf of the seniors we serve.
